Flower express

Bright and early on the morning of Valentine’s Day, one will find Courfeyrac making his way around the camp with a little red wagon in tow. He had employed Naomi’s help in growing all of the flowers, and he makes a mental note to offer an extra offering tonight, this time for Demeter, as a thanks for her blessing her daughter with that power… He’s in a nice, slightly rumpled, button down shirt, jeans, black suspenders and is wearing a bright pink bow tie. Perfect for the occasion if you were to ask him.

Everybody he passes, including the ones listed below (unfortunately, except for Callie), receives a small bouquet of peach blossoms and yellow roses, tied off with a ribbon and signed from Jehan. Everyone (including Callie) also receives a red rose with baby’s breath, tied off with a velvet ribbon from Courfeyrac himself, some of the girls (and those he’s close to, ie Jehan, Gabriel, etc.) with a (chaste) kiss on the cheek. In addition, all the girls in the camp get one single pink rose with the message “Do all things with love” and signed from A Daughter of Aphrodite. Everyone also receives a bouquet of snowdrops with red and white roses from Naomi.

It’s not too late to send flowers, he’ll gladly remind everyone. He even has a means of delivering them to people outside of the camp that he can make happen.

"Glad you like them," Courfeyrac laughs, hugging him back carefully.

"The rose... Ah, well, you know I can't say. If I went around telling everyone who their anonymous flowers were from, no one would trust me... Pink means love, appreciation and gratitude. So... that could be a number of people, probably."

[unstinting]

"Just this once? I'm your brother, I'd never tell anyone you told." It was very nice for his friends to think of him today, whichever one had done it. He gives Reynaud his best puppy-eyed gaze. Come on, just once.

Oh that puppy dog look is not fair, Alcuin. But he's going to stay strong. "You're my brother, yes... But I can't play favorites, even though you clearly are one of my favorites. So, not this time, mon frère."

[unstinting]

"Just this once?" Alcuin realizes slightly too late that while he was trying to be persuasive, that was definitely charmspeak and he didn't intend that. Hopefully Reynaud can resist, because otherwise he'll feel guilty.

There was a certain lull to Alcuin's tone, one that made him absolutely want to tell him who had sent it. It was the unspoken promise that telling him that would mean making his brother happy- and honestly, that's all he wanted to do.

But he managed to pull back and offer his most sympathetic smile, shaking his head. "I still have to say no."

He didn't sound so sure of himself, but he stuck his ground regardless.

[unstinting]

"Fair enough." Alcuin actually felt a bit relieved, even if he was still curious. He hadn't meant to try and make Reynaud obey him. He smiled and gave his brother another hug instead. "Well, tell whoever it was that it was very kind."

[dandylicious]

If anyone understands that, it's Rey. He hugs him back, not letting go for a moment, before laughing. "I'll send the thank you to them. And who knows, they might end up telling you themselves eventually."

[unstinting]

"Perhaps you could gently encourage them for me." He wrinkled his nose, then laughed. "I hate it when my curiosity can't be satisfied."

[dandylicious]

"Now that is something I can do... I know if I got something anonymously, I'd be trying to figure it out too."

And that's as close to a promise as Courfeyrac can make in this case.

[unstinting]

"You're the best. My favourite brother." Definitely better than Arthur. Even though he wasn't jealous of him.

[dandylicious]

"Careful! I'll get an ego if you tell me things like that."

But Courfeyrac is definitely preening at being called his favorite brother.

[unstinting]

"Well, it's true." Alcuin went to find a vase for his flowers- a larger one for the bouquets and a smaller one for his pink rose. "You can survive a little bit of a swelled ego, I think."

[dandylicious]

Courfeyrac helped him find those vases and would even help him put them in there if he wanted. "Even after everything?"

..... You're a ray of sunshine, Rey. You didn't have to bring that up, you know.

[unstinting]

Alcuin looked down, tucking a lock of hair behind his ear in an embarrassed sort of way. "Yes, even after everything."

The flowers did make him feel a lot better, after all. Lydia and Reynaud are right about morale and Alcuin had been wrong about the flower delivery service.

[dandylicious]

Handing over a vase, Courfeyrac leaned in and pressed a kiss to his brother's cheek. "You're still my favorite, too. And I'll do anything I can to make sure you're happy."

[unstinting]

"I'll get an ego if you tell me things like that. Then I'll ask for the moon and what will you do then?" Alcuin laughed as he put water in the vase and added the rose.

[dandylicious]

"Then we'll have matching egos... But if you ask for the moon, I'll just have to find Artemis or Selene to pay you a visit... That's close, isn't it?"

See? He has an answer for everything.

[unstinting]

"Well, I doubt that would end well. I'll avoid that." He carries the vase back to put beside his bunk. "So, what are you planning for today?"

[dandylicious]

"In completely different ways yeah..."

Shoving his hands in his pockets, he shrugs his shoulders. "Finish up the deliveries, then I'm taking Cosette to dinner before we work the cafe... Do you have any plans, other than staying in bed reading?

[unstinting]

"Not really. I was thinking..." He made a face, then laughed and shook his head. "I'm not really in a happy valentine's day sort of place. I'll have a nice time in bed reading."

[dandylicious]

"That makes sense, I can't fault you that."

And he won't argue it. He knows that nothing's worse than people getting on your case about something. "Want me to bring you back dinner after we close up?"

[unstinting]

"That would be nice, if it won't be too much trouble." He's sure that whatever the Demeter Cabin made would be delicious.

"Not any trouble at all. I'll make sure Jehan saves you a big plate."
