After some delays, the camp wide talent show is finally set to go. Or, as Annabeth would call it, CHB Factor, complete with three guests judges to give critique a la the standard reality competition. In the arena is a big stage with the judges’ table off to the side, with seats for Juniper, Mr. D, and Tai. And technically only one of them is actually equipped to do any real judging, but the other two are around to keep the mood light. The performers have a backstage area to prepare themselves for an afternoon of entertainment, leave their instruments or other various props they might need during the show.

The Emcee of the evening is Gabriel Novak. (Much to Annabeth’s chagrin, though she did agree that he would be a more entertaining choice than, well, herself.) She also would like to thank Jason for the idea and Merlin for his rounding up efforts, particularly for a few “secret” performances on the way. This seems to be a good cross-pantheon effort and the excitement in the air is tangible. One can’t help but be proud of their community for coming together for both the good and the bad.

There will be a nice after party after the show, which includes the standard dinner set up buffet style in the middle of camp as well as a large chocolate fountain surrounded by fruits, cakes, and other things to dip into the melted sweet stuff.

[Well now you have a sister who is just going to make your life difficult unless you do, Nico. Deal with it. She's worse than the Demeter boys.]

I haven't had any, but it definitely sounds good. We'll have to see if we can treat ourselves to some fondue at a restaurant or something.

Leo said there was a barrier, so we can't go anywhere.

I want to see New York City.

Not yet, but I can't see Chiron keeping it up for a long time. We have a camp full of headstrong teenagers, after all.

[He nods and smiles.]

We'll have to plan a tour of the city. Percy knows it like the back of his hand, so we could ask him to be our tour guide. I don't really know New York as much as I should.

[A hidden part of Nico is actually surprised when bringing up Percy doesn't send a pang of bitterness right through his heart, and just feels natural. Like talking about a friend. He's going to need to take a long introspection on this when he has a moment of alone time.]

I hope he doesn't. I'm glad it's to keep us safe, but... Now that I've seen some parts of this world? I want to see more. And maybe understand technology, just a little bit.

[SOME OF IT (most of it) was terrifying, okay?]

Of course! I'd love it if he took us. [She's a fan of Percy, whoops.] He can take us to all the good restaurants, maybe! Oh and I want to see museums! And the subways!

I can understand that.

[It's okay, sis, he gets the technology thing.

I think most cities have museums and subways in abundance. Let's talk with him at some point to plan a day for that.

[Who cares that two children of Pluto/Hades and a son of Poseidon are going out into the mortal world together? Nobody at all.]

[She won't tell anyone you're the leader of the club, Nico. Promise.]

Still! This is New York City! D'you think we could see a Broadway show? Is Porgy and Bess still running? Or- or! Anything Goes?

[What no he's not leader, that's totally Annabeth.

Nico actually looks interested in that.]

Good question. I haven't checked, but we should definitely see what shows are playing on Broadway. Or if there are any future shows we'd like to see.

[Her Broadway knowledge is really limited to stuff that opened before her death. Understandably. She used to listen to the records and dance around her living room. When she wasn't Heddy Lamar, it was fun to be Annie Oakley and tell Sammy that anything he could do, she could do better.]

We'll make it happen. What was that song the blonde girl was singing? The one who wasn't wearing a shirt? [That was Cosette. With Courfeyrac. And it was A Whole New World] Is that a show?

[Yeah, Nico's knowledge is even more limited, since he's lived mostly in Italy.]

I don't know, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't. I haven't sat down to catch up on what I've missed from the theaters. I think the last thing I saw was that movie with the deer, the rabbit, and the skunk?

[cavalrys]

Bambi! [She'd seen that one. Briefly, in theaters.] I know that one! It was so sad- I cried.

[deathdiduspart]

I did, too, but I mean, how can you not? [Bambi's mom]

How's camp so far, sis?

[cavalrys]

[That hunter is a terrible human being.]

Oh, it's really great! I met a lot of really cool people. [Look at her, using popular slang. She is totally with it.] Percy, Annabeth, Margot, Leo.

[deathdiduspart]

[He's so proud of her expanding slang vocabulary! Nico nods. He doesn't know Margot, but Hazel's a good judge of character. Even if he's angry at Percy, it doesn't change the fact that the son of Poseidon is a person worthy of trust.]

Demeter's children are just as cool. [Now Nico looks both amused and resigned.] You're most likely going to meet one of them at our cabin. He's taken it upon himself to bring me sandwiches at around lunch so that I "have at least one good meal a day."

[cavalrys]

Good for him! You need to eat. [Hazel nudges Nico just slightly with her elbow.] You're practically a skeleton.

That's probably the sweetest thing I've heard since I've been here, I want you to know. They must really like you.

[deathdiduspart]

[Nico pokes her in the side in retaliation, and then frowns.]

Yeah...I don't know why they do. I haven't done anything to really merit that. Peeta and Jehan were very...mm, forceful, I guess, on the issue.

[cavalrys]

Maybe they do it because they care about you, Nico. Did you ever think about that? [She raises an eyebrow at him, but her eyes are soft.]

[deathdiduspart]

Maybe. [He doesn't look comfortable at the idea. It's one thing for family to like him, but another entirely for people outside his family to.]

I think you'll like them, though. They're both amazing cooks.

[cavalrys]

It's a good thing, [She says patiently, and that's that. Nico doesn't have to like it. But it is good for him. He's so antisocial.]

Good! I can't wait to meet them.
