Of course Peeta's doing something for his brother's birthday, although unlike the café last month, this is more low-key and informal. Over the past couple of days he's spread the word around camp quietly, a word in an ear at a pegasus riding lesson or at an encounter on the training fields, and hopefully no one's told Jehan. When the time finally comes for the party, a collusion with Naomi has gotten Jehan away from their cabin to help her practice her powers. Though knowing Naomi, she'll likely end up in a tree somehow. At least it gives him and whoever shows up to help him time to set up.

There's food, of course, though it's all simple stuff this time and not anything so elaborate as Valentine's Day: various sandwiches, vegetable sticks, fruit slices, a few bowls of candy and pretzels. And of course a cake, because this is Demeter Cabin and this is just what they do, and Jehan has a sweet tooth that's bigger than his body. Anyone's welcome to stop by and grab some food or say hi to the birthday boy, but any fighting will be ejected in a rugby tackle from Peeta so just warnin'.

Of course he does. "I haven't, no. I've been too busy with all of my friends to even sit down!" Jehan admits. "So many people, not nearly enough time."

"Boots." A sage nod. "I imagine Tai and another few campers will be making emergency rubber boot runs in the near future. Where are you and Anna from? She's never said."

[shylyintrepid]

"Promise me?" He gives her a look. "And there probably is too such a tradition! There's a tradition about everything."

"Okay, what is that look?" She's not making any promises, Jehan. She was so recently called out for being a liar, after all.

"I don't think you can just randomly decide something is going to be a tradition, y'know."

[shylyintrepid]

"...so is there were I admit that I have never actually been to what Americans would consider a grocery store or a pot-luck?" He laughs, blushing. "Back home, it was always bakeries and small shops, never the big stores. Mama hates them. I don't think I've ever seen a hamantashen."

[annieisntokay]

"Really?" she shouldn't be surprised, Annie supposes. "Well, you'll just have to ask Peeta to make you some. If he's your brother, I'm sure you know he's an amazing cook." It was easy to talk about things that weren't herself, Annie realized. When it came to her, she'd stutter over the simplest things. But if it was hamentashens and Peeta Mellark? Apparently she could talk.

Okay. Nico can't help it. He laughs, and pulls Jehan's hand away from his mouth.

"Raspberries and anything to do with numbers are evil. Got it," he replies with just as much mock seriousness as Jehan is giving him. "Are there any other evil words or am I just going to have to stumble head first into them?"

He just ignores that first question. "But that's how traditions get started, Ep!" he points out. "Someone just goes 'oh, we'll do this from now on'. Like fashion."

"Oh, he's the best chef in the entire cabin! I just make the things I like--he makes all things and then the things that no one knew existed until that moment." He can't speak for Anna, of course, though he knows Naomi can't really cook yet. Or if she can't, she shouldn't be allowed in a kitchen alone. Too risky.

"Alas, I cannot say the Evil Words--they are evil, after all." He grins. "You'll just have to stumble across them!"

[ospreyed]

"So you're going to use the most hated camper to try to start a new, positive tradition?" Okay, it's your birthday, but that's stretching it.

[deathdiduspart]

"Of course I do." Nico sighs somewhat dramatically. "Actually, speaking of words. Have you made any new poems recently?"

[annieisntokay]

"He's really great- the meals on Valentine's day? They were so great. Oh- sorry- here I am, talking to you on your birthday- I'm Annie." She extends a hand to him cautiously.

[shylyintrepid]

He snorts. "You are not the most hated camper," he says, certain of this. "I'm fairly certain Allison Argent is."

[shylyintrepid]

"Nothing I can share." Jehan shrugs, a little apologetic but not overly so. It's his work, after all. "It isn't ready yet."

[shylyintrepid]

Jehan just laughs and shakes her hand, bowing slightly. "Jehan, but I'm sure you knew that already. It is my birthday, after all."

[ospreyed]

Eponine rolls her eyes. She kinda wanted that title, Jehan, thank you so much. "Yeah? She just nearly got us killed. I got all of our fun taken away. Kind of a toss-up, don't you think?"

[shylyintrepid]

"Fun we weren't supposed to have anyway. Really, Mr. D was slacking, letting it go as long as he did. Allison wins. Or loses. Whichever."

[annieisntokay]

She laughs, blushing slightly. "yeah, ah, I kinda did. And you're a son of Demeter, too. Greek." She remembered that whole Greek vs Roman blow-out earlier with Callie.

[ospreyed]

"That's the best kind of fun," she says pointedly. Honestly, she's still pissed off about it all. The mental aspects of withdrawal were still very much alive within her.

"I guess Hermes' kids can't take all the glory."

"Oh! We're from Denmark originally." She shrugs. "Going from a winter that averages zero degrees Celsius with a lot of wind to here is a bit of an adjustment. Even our summers only get up to maybe fifteen degrees Celsius."

[shylyintrepid]

Oh, that explains it, then. "I've never been to Denmark, though I hear it's lovely when it isn't freezing," he says with a smile. "I'd love to visit some time, at least the country if nothing else."

Nico just nods. He can understand not wanting to show unfinished work. Heck, the kid still has Jehan's poem to him in his pocket.

"When you're done, I'd like to take a look, if you don't mind?"

Jehan suddenly turns a bright pink and splutters a bit. The poem is about Nico. He can't show it to Nico! He'd kill the other boy.

"M-maybe! I may decide to simply trash it," he explains, reaching for a glass of water or something. "I do that an awful lot."

"You'd be welcomed with open arms," she replies warmly, "Family is always welcomed. Maybe when this is all over, we can take you and your siblings on a tour."
