Of course Peeta's doing something for his brother's birthday, although unlike the café last month, this is more low-key and informal. Over the past couple of days he's spread the word around camp quietly, a word in an ear at a pegasus riding lesson or at an encounter on the training fields, and hopefully no one's told Jehan. When the time finally comes for the party, a collusion with Naomi has gotten Jehan away from their cabin to help her practice her powers. Though knowing Naomi, she'll likely end up in a tree somehow. At least it gives him and whoever shows up to help him time to set up.

There's food, of course, though it's all simple stuff this time and not anything so elaborate as Valentine's Day: various sandwiches, vegetable sticks, fruit slices, a few bowls of candy and pretzels. And of course a cake, because this is Demeter Cabin and this is just what they do, and Jehan has a sweet tooth that's bigger than his body. Anyone's welcome to stop by and grab some food or say hi to the birthday boy, but any fighting will be ejected in a rugby tackle from Peeta so just warnin'.

"I wouldn't be so sure about that."

He shrugs a little, looking over to Nico, a little smirk on his face.

"You heard me out about it. People don't usually do that. You're a better kid than you think you are."

And then he holds out his hand for a fistbump.

Nico is too tired to argue it. He looks at the outstretched fist and, tentatively, fistbumps.

You modern kids are weird.

Watching Nico stare at it for a moment is weird, but he's glad the kid actually pounds it. He's beginning to think he'd leave him hanging, and, well - that'd just be awkward.

"You've never had one of those before?"

[angeliaforos]

"Which I will never not be jealous of you. Do you know what a day trip is for me? Going into Cleveland proper, dude." Because he does live in the city, but on the outskirts.

"I guess I should brush up on my French, then, huh?" Oh, yeah. This is happening, hell or high water.

She gets it. She knows Jehan is friendly, but he can be shy. There's as much of a spectrum of introversion and extroversion as there is for anything else, and she gives a little nod. She's not sure who he was looking aroun for, but at the party, at least, she won't press. "Alright. Come with me."

Dany grabs his hand, settling Rhaegal back onto his pauldron after allowing him to climb up her arm - she has to keep his claws in check, really - and starts to lead him out of the party. Discreetly, once they've left, she asks. "Are you alright? You seemed...shifty-eyed, just then."

He shakes his head. The Lotus Hotel helped him get used to technology and slang, but it lacked in other things.

"It's not a gesture I'm familiar with."

"Or let me translate," he agrees, hugging Gabriel again. "Oh, it'll be so much fun!"

"Oh, no, I was simply getting someone's attention to let them know I'd gone," he explains. "No sense in scaring them, right?" He hums a little as they walk, excited to see what Dany made him and relieved to be out of there for a while. He loves his friends, but he gets tired dealing with them all the time.

He blinks a few times, just staring incredulously.

"Wait- seriously? You're tripping me out here, kid."

Gabe's happy to hug Jehan around his middle again, just grinning. "I'm gonna come back so fucking fat. I mean, I know you're a good cook and all, but this is France."

"Right, sorry...didn't mean to presume." Because, really? Dany does that a lot, and it's a habit she should really get out of. She's happy to help him out with this, though. Jehan's soft and gentle with a fierce streak - it's nice to spend time with someone like him.

She holds open the big door to the forges until Jehan goes all the way inside. Once they're there, she sits him down at a work station - there's a small wrapped parcel on the table. "This is yours."

Jehan grins and starts to open the package. "You really didn't have you," he repeats. "What is it? I don't want to wait until it's unwrapped to know!"

Nico runs a hand through his hair. At least he doesn't mind sharing that he's from another time period, as long as they don't go near family.

"Didn't have it in the '40's. Or if they did, I was too young to see it."

[angeliaforos]

Yeah, that always trips him up a little. Gabe lets out a little sigh.

"Well, I'm not a handshake kind of guy."

She holds it up to the light once he's finished unwrapping, letting it sparkle through the lenses. "It's a new sight I made. For your blunderbuss."

Jehan is momentarily speechless, and in the end resorts to tugging Dany into the tightest hug ever.

"I love it! I needed one, my other's getting cracked and I've been meaning to get it repaired but this is just amazing!"

She returns the hug, just as eager and tight. It's nice to feel this again, to not have to put up a wall, to sleep and to eat on a regular schedule.

"It took me a long time. I'm not so great with glassworks."

This hug is much tighter than anticipated, and she makes a slight squeak involuntarily before returning it just as tight. There's something to be said about working in the forges that makes you strong.
