Who: Everyone at camp.
What: Apollo's sacred day.
Where: The ampitheater.
When: August 7, 8:30 PM.
Why: Apollo's at camp today, and as the god of music, he's holding a dance.

It was decided at the meeting of the summer gods, the Summer Solstice, but it took Apollo physically coming to the Big House and scolding Mr. D for being lazy and not putting up any fliers to actually get the god of wine to do it, a week in advance.

Apollo prides himself on being the god of just about everything - though Mr. D would say, out of the cocky god's earshot, that he's the god of everything nobody else wanted to be the god of. Because of this, he's always had a self-assured attitude which is sometimes hard to deal with.

Because of this, when he decided he was going to throw a dance for the demigods towards the end of the summer as a reward for accepting children of other pantheons into their Greek camp so well, most of the other gods decided to just let him have it rather than argue. (Considering that Hera and Zeus had gotten into three separate spats since the Solstice began, they'd all had enough godly screaming for one meeting.)

So at about 8:30 on the nose - since he's used to following a tight schedule on the sun chariot and he's excited about this, he'll be on time - a flaming, bright red Maserati drives up to the ampitheater. Apollo doesn't even have to lift a finger for the trunk to open, and speakers as well as state of the art DJ equipment rise up onto a platform. He waves his hand, and club music with a thumping bassline starts playing.

(Never say that Apollo doesn't like to make an entrance.)

Requests will be taken all night by Apollo, who will be manning the dj booth as well as making up freestyle haikus. He's one of the more amicable gods, especially to his kids, which he's hosted more of at Camp Half Blood and Camp Jupiter combined than any other god. He's charming and younger looking than most gods, with a cocky smile and sandy hair.
If you're a pretty girl, he might hit on you.

(Apologies in advance. He'd say old habits die hard because he's right. Sorry, Hunters of Artemis.)

[ It takes a swift tug to pull Natalie's head out of the clouds and, as if just realizing something, she jerks her head back, covering her mouth. She had seen Leo create fire out of thin air but it had never sustained. So clearly: ]

Oh, gods. Leo, did I do that do you? Shit.

[ Her voice is a tense whisper and she rubs her temples, thinking. So she's not Percy but she can summon a bit of condensation herself (elemental control isn't ever easy), forming it between her hands. Unless he does something, she's going to dump that gathered mist over him. ]

[ Wait, she thought - ]

No! No, you didn't -

[ He thought she knew about this already! Seeing the magic coalesce in her hands, he takes a step back before he realizes he's moved. He has no idea what that's supposed to do and it is not helping him focus. ]

So, uh - remember the other day when I said surprising me wasn't a good idea? This is why.

[You know it's impossible for a fire to go unnoticed, right? Especially a fire on a person? There's gasps and some shrieks from around the two, and that draws Percy's attention (as well as just about everyone else's). He curses violently and throws the cookie he was eating away, calling all of the liquid on the snack table to him with a wave of his arm and then pushing and charging through the crowd to the source of the fire. When he gets close enough, another wave causes the liquid barrage to crash over Leo, soaking him in water, ice, and soda less than four seconds after Percy saw the fire.]

Are you okay? Hey, someone get some ambrosia!

[ Leo's focus is split between trying to get control of the flames and Natalie, so he doesn't even notice what Percy's up to until it's too late. It crashes into him, knocking him to the ground and leaving him choking. Up his nose?! Really?! Is that really necessary?!

At least it's extinguished the flames. But Leo could have done that on his own; it was just taking a little time!

...Man, someone from Aphrodite's cabin is going to kill him for getting soda on the suit.

And gods, now he wishes the flames weren't gone. Water and ice and soda are cold. After another round of coughs, Leo looks up at Percy from where he's sitting on the ground with a scowl. ]

I'm fine, and you can save the ambrosia for the next person you try to drown.

[ For possibly the first time in a long time, Natalie releases a high pitched scream, ducking for cover under a lifted arm. She gets the residual splashes from Percy and the wave of beverages, the mist of hers all forgotten; the stains on the dress are manageable. It's Leo she's worried about now, immediately crouching beside him, gathering her skirts about her knees. ]

We had it covered. Or, uh, he did,

[ But the annoyed expression doesn't last long when she casts another glance at Leo, looking like a wet cat., and Natalie snorts, covering her nose with the outside of her wrist. ]

[And Percy's just ...kind of staring at Leo, because dude, you were on fire. Now the fire's gone, but ...there's no burns. He knows way better than to assume he can heal other people with water, so the question is very obvious on his face.]

[Still, he's a nice guy, so before he says anything he'll reach in front of him and make a pulling gesture, calling the water and assorted liquids back to him. The droplets pull out of Leo and Nat's clothes and hair, collecting in a stream that he lets fall harmlessly into the dirt next to him.]

You were on fire. What the hell?

[ This is not funny, Nat, so he gives her a dirty look too, and then Percy dries them both out. With a sigh, Leo leans back on his hands. Should he tell the truth, or not? Let them all know he's the cursed son of Hephaestus, a danger to them all? Yeah, that sounds fun!

He settles for just pointing a finger at Natalie. ]

Her fault.

[ He'll probably suffer for this later. ]

[ Natalie sucks in an exaggerated gasp, her jaw slack after that insane accusation. ] Excuse me? No. [ She tightens her lips and shakes her head at the both of them. ]

No way. I can cause major damage but that was so not mine. [ Her glare burns into Leo instead and she gets to her feet, pointing at him accusingly. ]

Let it be known, he kissed me first!

[Now, Nat might very well be able to set someone on fire with her powers. He wouldn't put it past her at all, at least. But then she reacts like that, and Percy's eyes just shoot open in disbelief.]

Wait a minute, you kissed?

[He's heard of hot kisses before but this is ridiculous!]

[ Leo's jaw drops in disbelief. He stares at Natalie, then shakes his head and pushes himself to his feet, completely ignoring Percy. ]

I did not! You remember the other day? You kissed me!

[ Natalie huffs, blowing a stray curl away from her mouth. It sticks to her lipstick and she hastily brushes it away from her cheek. ] No, no, that's not what I meant. Okay, yes, I kissed you first on Aphrodisia but you kissed me first tonight and -

[ She looks sharply at Percy even though he has little to do with that. ] I had no time to set him on fire. It just -- happened.

-So you two are dating, sort of, and now Leo catches on fire.

[...He's just gonna stare at them for a moment, then shakes his head.]

Even for Camp that's a new one.

[ He shoots Percy a frustrated look. ]

We're not -

[ Stopping, he looks back at Nat uncertainly. To be honest, Leo's not sure what they are anymore, but he sighs. ]

You had to do it here, didn't you.

[ Hope Dany's doing better than he is... ]

[ Natalie doesn't want to out Leo's ability, not totally, especially since he doesn't make with the fire unless he's out of view from other people. She doesn't protest anymore, nor does she make any corrections - and frankly, she's relieved Leo doesn't know what they are either. ]

Um, thanks for throwing drinks on him - us. We should probably finish what we were talking about? Or just hide separately.

[Riiiiiiiiight. He can tell you're trying to get rid of him - Percy looks between the two for a moment, and there's definitely a considering expression on his face, before he shakes his head a little and starts turning away.]

Try not to stumble into any of the torches again, or whatever happened. I'll just go... away. Over there. Other side of the pavilion. For the rest of the night. Have fun.

[And indeed he'll start to make his way back to Annabeth. But he'll be keeping an eye on the two of you...]

[ Leo does not trust the way Percy's looking at them, but thank the gods he's leaving. A glance at the other campers - they were still eyeing him warily, like they expected him to spontaneously combust again - tells him that it's not a bad idea. Except there is no way he's heading back toward the dance.

Looking at Natalie, he points in a random direction... away from the pavilion. ]

We should... probably go, too.

[ The next counselors meeting is going to be an interesting one, for certain. She can already see Percy waggling his eyebrows at her and Leo and making bad fire puns.

Anyway, she hadn't planned on staying long. They had their dance, and it was far more interesting than a slow one. ]

The lake? Sure. Just don't make googly eyes at the nymphs with me around. [ A somewhat possessive comment? Maybe. ]

[ After all this, Leo doesn't want to see Percy ever again. He might just skip the next few meetings, at least.

The comment sends a thrill through him, and he has the decency to look offended. ]

You kidding? I've nearly drowned enough for one night.

[ His tone is dry, but he's almost smiling again. ]

[ That gets Natalie to laugh again, throwing her head back as she walks away from the party. She folds her arms and smiles a little over her shoulder at Leo. ]

You could just dry yourself off, if that's the case.

[ But she's not that cruel to send him into the lake or anything like that. ]

Yeah, as soon as they chuck me out on the beach again.

[ Been there, done that, got sand in his mouth from it. It's not an experience he cares to relive, even if the nymphs are cute. ]

[ When they're a way's away from the crowd - and perhaps Natalie had something to do with added shadows - she pulls on his hand to kiss him again. Because, hey, why not end this bizarre and eventful evening on a good note? No decisions to make or anything, just something nice. They like each other and that certainly counts for something important. ]

[ Being pulled into a kiss surprises him - which is happening a lot tonight, apparently. Surprises around every corner. At least this one isn't a bunch of liquid and ice slamming into him, or a bunch of words he doesn't know how to deal with. It's easier this way, so he just kisses her back, with less hesitation this time. ]
