Who's Strong and Brave Here to Save the American Way?

Who: Steve Rogers, Annabeth Chase, an NPC demigod...and a surprise
What: Going to get the demigod Tybalt and Dave heard about in Saratoga Springs.
Where: Northern New York
When: May 14-15th
Why: Because Captain America

For once, this quest doesn't have an official prophecy telling the questors to go. This time, it's mostly a warning.

Where the cat and red-eyed one had gone
To save this child they need brains, then brawn.
Siblings two shall go forth
And one shall come into his worth.

But mind the dangers in the Springs
For there shall be one to pull the strings
Of others that are still unknown
And one who will one day atone.

They had planned to send Annabeth anyway, but the prophecy mentioned siblings so Chiron (reluctantly) told Steve that he was going to get to go on this quest as Edmund was too new. There's no big to-do over this one, though there's still a chance to tell the two good-bye.

I dunno, I just went to help some people an' I suddenly got huge.

[Okay, he has to. Bucky goes to poke at Steve's arm, still stunned]

Holy hell. You're a goddamn statue! What happened? Why'd you have to save people?

There was a dame there, said she wanted to take the kid we were supposed to get to Gaea. We wouldn't let her, so she decided if she couldn't have him, no one could, an' she lit the house on fire. So I went in to get him and his dad. [Clearly everyone runs into burning buildings all the time, right? At least that's how he's making it sound, anyway. Not a big deal.]

[wintersergeant]

Uh-huh.

[Steven...]

An' was this before or after you turned into a fuckin' Adonis?

I, uh. Before? I think?

[wintersergeant]

[A pause]

Seriously, what happened to you?

[thestarspangledman]

I just told you. I went in to get Shea an' there was all this smoke, an' I think I saw your dad, maybe, and then when I got out of there I was like this.

[wintersergeant]

Dad?

[Apollo? What?]

Blond teenager lookin' fella?

Yeah, that was him. Way better looking than you, you musta got hit with the ugly stick or something.

[wintersergeant]

[That gets a punch to the shoulder and--that actually sort of hurt his fist. What. He doesn't show that it hurt, but ow]

Man, I know I showed you posters of Ma. I get my looks from her, jerk. Why did my dad do this to you, though?

[He shrugs, and gives Bucky a baffled look.] I dunno. He didn't say anything, I mighta been imagining it.

Steve buddy?

[Another punch to the arm]

You ain't imaginin' shit.

[thestarspangledman]

Hey, I ain't a punching bag. [For that, Bucky gets a hair-ruffle, because he's tall enough to reach it now.]

Maybe I impressed him or something? Or maybe I impressed my Mom?

[wintersergeant]

Okay, none'a that.

[He flattens his hair back to his preferred ruffle and reaches up (holy shit he has reach up now) to ruffle Steve's]

That or they got tired of prayin' you don't kill yourself. Didjda need your inhaler with the smoke?

...Well, yeah, but there wasn't exactly time to get to it. The house went up real quick.

[wintersergeant]

You got it after you got outta there, yeah?

[thestarspangledman]

Yeah, but why? [It's likely still in that little bag of stuff Bucky had given him, lying in a pile with the shield.]

[wintersergeant]

Idiot, I'm trying to make sure you're okay! Did you use your inhaler when you got outta there?

[thestarspangledman]

No. I didn't need to. I mean, maybe I coulda when I was inside, but once I got Shea out I...[He frowns a little, looking thoughtful.]

I was coughing, yeah, but I didn't need it.

[wintersergeant]

Allergies still botherin' you?

[thestarspangledman]

Not that I can tell. [--For experimenting's sake, he takes a deep breath and holds it for a moment. There is no hint of a wheeze in his inhale or his exhale, and he gives Bucky a wondering look.]

[wintersergeant]

[Bucky beckons Steve closer]

C'mere, lemme listen to your heart.

[thestarspangledman]

Yeah, okay. [So he moves over, still looking a little dumbfounded at all of this.]

[wintersergeant]

[Bucky leans up (so weird) and presses his ear to Steve's chest, listening for a murmur or anything that he's so used to hearing from Steve.

Nothing. He pulls back]

I think you're not gonna get sick anymore, Steve.
