CAPTURE THE FLAG

Who: All campers!
What: A game of Capture the Flag.
Where: The Forest
When: September 20, 7 PM sharp. Dinner will be served once a team wins.
Why: It's time to work together as a team. Again.

[Mr. D is waiting at the edge of the forest, and Chiron's trotting behind him with a list, inspecting the lines of equipment and making sure all the helmets and breastplates are available and clearly marked for which team they belong to. As each camper shows up to the meeting spot, the centaur ticks them off the list - it's an attendance sheet. Once Chiron's given him the signal, Mr. D begins speaking.]

Let's do this quickly, shall we? This week for Capture the Flag, we're going to be doing things a little differently. It's come to our attention...

[He glances skyward - yes, Hera has been riding him about this lately.]

...that we should do more to integrate the new campers we are hosting at Camp Half-Blood, and make them feel as if they have a home. That being said! This week, you'll be divided differently into teams rather than by cabin, and our captains will be the Roman praetors, since they know all about commandeering armies. Chiron here has done his best to make sure each team has a nice mix of all of you in it, so if you don't like who you've been teamed up with? Don't come crying to me.

The RED team will be headed by Praetor Jason Grace. He'll have the following team members: Alcuin Delaunay, Annie Cresta, Charlie Miller, Dave Strider, Ferb Fletcher, Emile Joly, Gabriel Novak, Heather O'Toole, Johnny Mason, Leo Valdez, Maya Matlin, Mike Warren, Natalie Goodman, Reynaud de Courfeyrac, Sadie Kane, Scott McCall, and Ventus Bradford.

The BLUE team will be headed by Praetor Reyna Rivera. She'll have the following team members: Anna Neumeyer, Bay Kennish, Daenerys Targaryen, Dean Winchester, Eponine Thenardier, Hazel Levesque, Hermione Granger, Jean Prouvaire, Karrin Murphy, Margot Sullivan, Merida of Dunbroch, Millie DeWitt, Ron Weasley, Saralegui Sargon and Sky Smith.

Now. Here are the rules, since I really don't want to see any of you getting maimed out there.

1) No killing. I cannot stress this enough. Lupa's pack lives in the forest, and she's told me she's having them all keep a watchful eye on you in case things get too intense. That being said, if you try anything, there is a very hungry group of wolves that you'll have to answer to.

2) No maiming, either. Chiron is going to be in there as well, working as a medic, but neither he nor I want to see any arms getting chopped off!

3) Absolutely no friendly fire. This is about working together as a group. I'm sure the praetors will stress this to you.

4) All weapons and magical items may be used -

[Chiron cuts him off midway to say 'Ms. Targaryen, put the dragon on your back away.'

Mr. D gives an exasperated sigh and continues.]

All weapons and magical items may be used in this game. Hannibal will be roaming the forest as well, so you're free to use him for...whatever it is that you Romans do with him.

[Yeah, thinking about his time as Bacchus makes his head hurt, so he's just going to Ignore It.

Once everyone's back in their positions after getting their helmets and protective gear, Chiron calls the game on and goes galloping off into the forest.]

[OOC NOTE: I have not included any characters currently on hiatus in these team listings! If you'd like your character to be included, please PM the mod account!]

Annie on the Banks

[personal profile] annieisntokay 2013-09-20 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[Annie has taken it upon herself to secure the banks of the creek. The Red Team had a leg up in having her on it in that respect. With little difficulty, Annie had climbed up into one of the trees along the banks on her side of the creek, and was watching from on high. Below her, the creek had risen and began to churn, making it far more difficult to cross.

Her wild hair had been tamed in the form of two pigtails, twisted in her favorite fishtail braid. Even so, she was playing with the end of one, her small trident-shaped hair pin working to keep her bangs out of her eyes.

From up here, she had a good view of the creek and anyone who decided to try to cross. Moments like this, she could almost remember who she was before, and she could just taste the competition in the air.]

One problem Sky had was water. Well... she was waterproofed, and she didn't breath, but she did sink. So that stream was looking a bit unfortunate for her. Her armor was shiny, and she had a bronze sledgehammer strapped to her back. Hammerhead to handle gleaming bronze and far too heavy for a tiny child her size.

She eyed the water, wondering if that was how it should act. Or if it was being influenced in some way. She could knock over one of the trees, cross that way... but a Dryad might complain. The same problem if she tried to use her hammer to pull herself over. If only Festus wasn't with Leo...

[ As soon as Chiron gives the word, Leo scrambles around their side of the woods, setting traps of all sorts. Most are set off by motion or touch, and his favorite ones are the trick mines he's taken from Ares cabin and messed with. When triggered, whatever poor kid is on the receiving end will be treated to paint in a wide array of bright colors, a bright light not unlike a flashbang grenade, those confetti poppers from New Year's that everyone likes to set off in your face, or even fireworks (that will never get old) - basically anything that will make a lot of noise and spectacle and let everyone know where they are.

His assignment after that is to try and sneak around to the Blue team's side of the woods. Find and disable the traps there, they said. We believe in you, they said. So yeah, great. Send the guy who can't fight right into the enemy territory. Great idea. But he's found a special armor design, at least - one meant to help hide him while he sneaks around, and let's face it - Leo needs that. He can't sneak his thumb around a hammer; how do they expect him to get around in the woods undetected?! At least he's got Festus on call. The whistle is tied around his neck, ready for action whenever he needs to call in the cavalry. For now, the dragon is hanging out somewhere in the woods, trying not to call attention to itself. Because as great a defense for the flag it would be, a giant bronze dragon kind of lets people know something's up. It's not exactly easy to hide.

Leo comes to a stop at the edge of the woods, eyeing the creek and the automaton on the other side. They should have just had him guard the flag, he thinks in irritation as he spots Sky over there. How is he supposed to cross this thing and still get around her unnoticed? Skirt the edges of the trees, maybe? He's certainly not going to try his luck and make a run straight for it, whether Annie's on their side or not. But if they could find a way to temporarily disable Sky, it could work... ]

[From her perch, Annie can make out both Sky and Leo. She doesn't know Sky at all, and Leo she knows enough about. They're on the same team, and she can only hope he knows she's up there. Sky, on the other hand, seems to be oblivious.

Good.

The water in the creek rises slowly, a few feet deep now in the deepest parts. The trees and branches along the way create eddies for any unsuspecting camper. The trick, however, was Leo. She knew enough to know that he wanted to get to the other side. And there were a few ways to do that.

She seriously had no problem parting Zephyros Creek completely for him. But they had to get Sky out of the way. With a mental push, a large wave rose out of the creek, heading directly to Sky.]

[personal profile] creepyfreezone 2013-09-21 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
*Sky made a dash to the right of her position to outrun the wave. Her speed coming from a mechanically perfect stride, and while she was off guard her reaction timing was well calibrated and accurate... thanks in part to Leo's double checking her every system. Sadly while Sky was looking for spots to cross over she spotted Leo's hiding spot. She smiled until she remembered they were not on the same team. That was... unfortunate.*

*Especially since she was aware her brother was even less equipped to fight in close. Sky's hammer came off it's rigging and she swung. The chain extended, and a metal block much larger than Sky's fist came flying at Leo. Better move brother.*

[personal profile] commandertoolbelt 2013-09-21 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Leo curses, diving in the other direction and scrambling toward where the wave had come from. Thank the gods for battle reflexes he never knew he had. When did Sky build that hammer, anyway? Even his hammer is just a three-pounds, for crying out loud!

There's gotta a way around this, he thinks. Sky can't swim, for one, but how long could Annie hold her in the water? If he had all his materials, he'd try to build a low-level EMP to temporarily shut her down, but he's missing about half of what he would need, and making it would take more time than he has, now that she knows he's here. Fire wouldn't do much against her, and he's not keen on the idea of using it, either.

Whatever happens, they have to stop Sky here, one way or another. If she gets to their side, all of his traps will be useless. ]
annieisntokay: (help me)

[personal profile] annieisntokay 2013-09-22 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Annie can totally do this. Focusing all of her mental energy on the water, she forces a thick wall of water up in front of the hammer. The properties of water make it hard to continue on it's course, and Annie gives a small smile from her position in the branches. But now... to help Leo.

Pushing the wall of water over on to Sky, she motions for Leo to dash across, part of the stream now less swollen. Maybe he saw that. Maybe. She can only hope.]

*Sky liked this, it was a challenge to overcome. With science, she clicked a switch in her hammer and the chain started to recoil toward her. But the head never returned to the hammer, she spun and launched the hammerhead back out again. Once more aimed for Leo.*

*Sky stepped back from the wall of water. She needed to stop them, because that is the game. But with the water fighting her she wasn't doing well enough, she could let Leo cross then disable him on her side, away from the creek.*
commandertoolbelt: (900% done)

[personal profile] commandertoolbelt 2013-09-22 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Before he can find a way around her, Sky's throwing that hammer again and he has to drop to the ground to dodge. ]

Will you cut that out! And hold still!

[ The last two words are said louder, for Annie's benefit. Hopefully, she'll get the message and try to hold Sky down, if that's even possible. Disarming the girl would be difficult for him, so digging out a chain of his own and grappling with her is out. But if she can be held long enough that he can get to her control panel, he could shut her down for the rest of the game. And even if he can't do that, there's still one more thing he can try before he bolts.

But at least he's made it to the other side. If this doesn't work, he can just make a run for it. Though he can't decide if it would be good if Sky follows him or not... he does still have those traps on his side. ]
annieisntokay: (important)

[personal profile] annieisntokay 2013-09-22 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, Annie's got it already. She pushes the water towards Sky, creating a sort of jet originating from the creek which was significantly closer to a river now. The goal was to keep her back, keep her in one position by making it difficult even for her to get past.

Hopefully now that Leo was on the other side, they could disable her.]
creepyfreezone: (Do you always do what you're told?)

[personal profile] creepyfreezone 2013-09-22 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
*Sky dropped back, putting more distance between her and the creek. She could not fight both Leo and the river. But she could stop Leo, her brother was not much concern.*

But... isn't this how I play?

*Her hammerhead shot back, chain coiled inside as it attached back to the bronze shaft that was her weapon. This was why people worked with each other, it was easier when you had a river to assist your advances.*
commandertoolbelt: (you are definitely not okay)

[personal profile] commandertoolbelt 2013-09-22 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
By throwing a giant hammer at my head? No!

[ Thank you, Annie! Now if only Sky would give him an opening. He's watching for one as he backs toward the trees. ]

[personal profile] annieisntokay 2013-09-23 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
[You are most welcome!

Here's the great thing about water connected to the ocean: there is a shit ton of it and then some. As such, when Sky steps back, Annie pursues her with the jet, forcing her back further.]
creepyfreezone: (Uh-huh. Really.)

[personal profile] creepyfreezone 2013-09-23 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't throw anything, and I aimed for your shoulder.

*Technically, it's still attached to a chain, so it was more of a swing, possibly a launch. Sky was pushed further from the water's edge. And she realized a truth about this fight, the terrain was not her friend, but at the same time Leo was bound too.*

I might not be properly trained to fight, but you told me you don't like to fight. The child of... Poseidon cannot protect you if you cross the water and stray from the field of influence. I can stop you without the interference.

*Sky spun her hammer, about six inches of chain connected the head. She was preparing for another offensive move.*

[personal profile] commandertoolbelt 2013-09-23 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
It counts!

[ Magnets. He's got to have a powerful enough magnet in here to short-circuit her, just for a little while, or at least hold the hammer down. He digs in his tool belt's pockets for one, keeping as close as he can to the creek while still trying to reach the trees. It's stupid, and it doesn't really work, but he tries. She does have a point, after all.

...Bingo. He pulls out a decently sized portable electromagnet, barely managing to wiggle it out of there. At the very least, this should be able to catch the chain next time Sky swung it past his head.

If this doesn't work, there's always fire. Leo never did tell her about that. ]
annieisntokay: (Default)

[personal profile] annieisntokay 2013-09-23 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
[If fire is needed, well, Annie can put it out if things go sour, she's sure of it.

But for now, she'll keep pressing on Sky until the girl gives up.

[personal profile] creepyfreezone 2013-09-23 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
*Sky's eyes shot directly to the device in Leo's hand, as if she knows not only what it is but why it's there. And suddenly she looks very hurt and stops spinning her hammer. A small energy glowing around her.*

But... trying to short me out with an electromagnet doesn't? What about your friend in the tree, attacking me with water, those don't count?

*She looks so hurt... like she might cry. Oh, and your electromagnet is making is making an unfortunate popping noise, smoking, and several key elements have burned out from Sky just feeling that betrayed. Good job Leo.*
commandertoolbelt: (can we not risk our lives just one time)

[personal profile] commandertoolbelt 2013-09-23 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Oh, crap. ]

I swear I wasn't trying to short circuit you! And it's not like the water will hurt you - you're waterproof!

[ All he wanted was some way to get the hammer away from her. Leo glares at the electromagnet in frustration and drops it, sighing. He didn't want to do this, because it really is a great weapon, but after a deep breath to steady himself, he holds up his hand like a gun, and a clean shot of white-hot fire shoots straight for it the chain. If he can at least weaken it enough, the chain will break if Sky tries to throw it again. And the fire shouldn't affect her, either; it's all condensed tightly into one straight shot that would only hit the place it's aimed at. ]
annieisntokay: (okay really? don't be like that)

[personal profile] annieisntokay 2013-09-23 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Annie keeps her assault going as best she can, though it falters for a moment as she notices Leo take aim with- fire?

If she didn't have such great reflexes, she would have probably fallen from the tree in shock.

Leo has fire. Well then. She'll have to talk to him about that, later.]
creepyfreezone: (!-Icon In Comment)

[personal profile] creepyfreezone 2013-09-24 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know the exact math of the force per square inch on her water jets, but I'm pretty sure it's higher than my hammer. And celestial bronze isn't magnetic, so there's no other purpose for an electromagnet than to disable me!

*Sky used her hammer to deflect some of the water blasts, doing her best to avoid taking any of those anywhere that is especially vulnerable to blunt force trauma. When it comes to the gout of fire? She just blocks the stream of flame with her left hand. Entirely unphased by the heat and flame, as Leo would need to increase the heat a great deal to deal with her skin.*

*Sky kept a defensive stance, there wasn't an opening she could use. So she had to wait. Next time, she would be more prepared.*
commandertoolbelt: (900% done)

[personal profile] commandertoolbelt 2013-09-24 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
[ The flame falters and starts to die as Leo blinks at her in surprise. Did Sky seriously distract him enough that he didn't even think about it?

Why did they send him over here again?

He isn't sure where his team mate is, exactly, but Leo glances up at the trees.]

Annie, can you hold her here with less force?
annieisntokay: (gone away)

[personal profile] annieisntokay 2013-09-24 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Annie would have been irritated that he mentioned who it was, but, since Percy was on his quest, let's be real, she's the only person who can manipulate water.

She doesn't say anything, but instead, releases the water pressure, but still does her best to hold her in one spot, water on three sides of her now.]
creepyfreezone: (!-Icon In Comment)

[personal profile] creepyfreezone 2013-09-24 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
*Sky glanced at Leo, and started to swing her hammer above her head, brought it back in a huge overhead swing and... wrapped the head around a thicker tree branch behind her. Then, she smiled, and pulled herself up out of the three sides of water.*

*The force of the chain winding back into the hammerhead worked like a saw and cut through the branch in moments, but it was enough distance to get her out of that trap. A design flaw she would need to work on with the next upgrades. She landed on her feet, smiling.*

That was really fun!
commandertoolbelt: (stop talking already)

[personal profile] commandertoolbelt 2013-09-24 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
[ Great. Just fantastic. He is never playing this game again, Leo thinks, heaving a deep sigh and mumbling a curse or two under his breath.

Might as well give this one up now and try to do what he's supposed to, so he turns and makes for the trees. ]

[personal profile] annieisntokay 2013-09-24 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Damn it, Leo! Annie isn't going to let up. Bringing the wter back into the creek she continues to make the water churn and rapids rise.]
