CAPTURE THE FLAG

Who: All campers!
What: A game of Capture the Flag.
Where: The Forest
When: September 20, 7 PM sharp. Dinner will be served once a team wins.
Why: It's time to work together as a team. Again.



[Mr. D is waiting at the edge of the forest, and Chiron's trotting behind him with a list, inspecting the lines of equipment and making sure all the helmets and breastplates are available and clearly marked for which team they belong to. As each camper shows up to the meeting spot, the centaur ticks them off the list - it's an attendance sheet. Once Chiron's given him the signal, Mr. D begins speaking.]

Let's do this quickly, shall we? This week for Capture the Flag, we're going to be doing things a little differently. It's come to our attention...

[He glances skyward - yes, Hera has been riding him about this lately.]

...that we should do more to integrate the new campers we are hosting at Camp Half-Blood, and make them feel as if they have a home. That being said! This week, you'll be divided differently into teams rather than by cabin, and our captains will be the Roman praetors, since they know all about commandeering armies. Chiron here has done his best to make sure each team has a nice mix of all of you in it, so if you don't like who you've been teamed up with? Don't come crying to me.

The RED team will be headed by Praetor Jason Grace. He'll have the following team members: Alcuin Delaunay, Annie Cresta, Charlie Miller, Dave Strider, Ferb Fletcher, Emile Joly, Gabriel Novak, Heather O'Toole, Johnny Mason, Leo Valdez, Maya Matlin, Mike Warren, Natalie Goodman, Reynaud de Courfeyrac, Sadie Kane, Scott McCall, and Ventus Bradford.

The BLUE team will be headed by Praetor Reyna Rivera. She'll have the following team members: Anna Neumeyer, Bay Kennish, Daenerys Targaryen, Dean Winchester, Eponine Thenardier, Hazel Levesque, Hermione Granger, Jean Prouvaire, Karrin Murphy, Margot Sullivan, Merida of Dunbroch, Millie DeWitt, Ron Weasley, Saralegui Sargon and Sky Smith.

Now. Here are the rules, since I really don't want to see any of you getting maimed out there.


1) No killing. I cannot stress this enough. Lupa's pack lives in the forest, and she's told me she's having them all keep a watchful eye on you in case things get too intense. That being said, if you try anything, there is a very hungry group of wolves that you'll have to answer to.

2) No maiming, either. Chiron is going to be in there as well, working as a medic, but neither he nor I want to see any arms getting chopped off!

3) Absolutely no friendly fire. This is about working together as a group. I'm sure the praetors will stress this to you.

4) All weapons and magical items may be used -

[Chiron cuts him off midway to say 'Ms. Targaryen, put the dragon on your back away.'

Mr. D gives an exasperated sigh and continues.]

All weapons and magical items may be used in this game. Hannibal will be roaming the forest as well, so you're free to use him for...whatever it is that you Romans do with him.

[Yeah, thinking about his time as Bacchus makes his head hurt, so he's just going to Ignore It.

Once everyone's back in their positions after getting their helmets and protective gear, Chiron calls the game on and goes galloping off into the forest.]

[It's very cute that you think taking a nap by your team's most prized possession right now is a good way to guard it, Saralegui. Admittedly, he doesn't expect much more of a Hypnos kid, even if it is the counselor.

Gabe's sneaking up behind Saralegui invisibly, hoping he won't be noticed as he tries to pull the flag out of the ground.]

[cute that you really think anyone would be sleeping on guard duty, even a hypnos kid. relaxing doesn't have to mean not paying attention, especially when someone like this is involved.

he's not quite good enough to hear invisible footsteps, but he can certainly notice the flag being "subtly" removed out of the corner of his eye. so he waits for a few moments, tryin to get an estimate of where of enemy is based on how the flag is moving, before suddenly twisting and taking a swipe with a branch sitting nearby. no need to risk sharp weapons for a game, after all.]

[oh, Sara! For a capture the flag newbie - at least, Gabe thinks you're a newbie - you're good at this. The swipe manages to trip Gabriel up - literally. He stumbles over the branch, cursing as his focus is knocked off, and he's visible again, cursing softly as he faceplants.]

[he's a newbie, but a very clever newbie who knows his cabin's reputation and doesnt mind taking advantage of it. smiling sweetly with the enemy finally visible, he simply reaches over to better secure the flag in the ground, unperturbed.]

Are you going to give up, or will I actually have to knock you out?

[angeliaforos]

[Gabriel looks up and down Saralegui - yeah, he would not expect this kind of kid to pack such a punch, but then again, he would not expect it of Jehan at first, either, but as soon as the kid starts mentioning effects of poisonous plants...yeah.

And this kid could put him to sleep and never have him wake up. Talk about killer.

He tilts his head from side to side, as if he's weighing his options.]

So, uh, to clarify, what exactly do you mean by knocking me out?

[lavenderglasses]

[he'd probably lose if you got him in a fistfight, but saralegui's specialty is never having to be a situation like that at all. and half of it is attitude, all cool regality and he settles back into his seat, apparently not even concerned enough to put himself between gabe and the flag.]

Just until the game is over, of course. I'm not evil.

I KIND OF WANT THIS THREAD TO BE SARA JUST KNOCKING GABRIEL OUT AND HIM WAKING UP REPEATEDLY

[He bites his bottom lip - yeah, that was the kind he was hoping for. Lord knows the camp doesn't need any more cute bruisers - they've already got Anna and Maya.]

Now, I like my naps like the rest of us, but I don't exactly need one right now.

Oh, don't you? I don't agree -- and between the two of us, I think I have a bit more expertise in that area.

You'd be surprised. With how much I like to sleep in, I'm very surprised they made me a counselor at all.

[He's going to do his utmost to keep himself up, Sara.]

[he was a bit bored just sitting here, so...what the hell, he'll give you a chance. don't waste it.]

Cute. But not especially convincing to a child of Hypnos. Anything else?

You could always just let me go. It's not like I could do much damage on you now that you know my secret.

[Gods, please let this work...]

Your "secret" invisibility? [is that a special thing here? he's a bit too new to know better either way, so he's just taken to accepting everything without issue.] Knowing about that wouldn't stop you from trying to just sneak back in the moment you've left and catch me unaware this time. I have no reason to just trust you, after all.

Y'know how long it took me to actually be able to hold that for as long as I can?

[A year. A very, very long year.]

You should trust me because we're neighbors and I am, surprisingly, a very considerate neighbor.

Impressive. Unfortunately, spending a year perfecting a skill like invisibility doesn't really make me believe in your trustworthiness. Trustworthy people don't generally have that much need for being invisible.

With all due respect, trustworthy people don't exactly go around playing Sleeping Beauty with people against their will, either.

[and there he grins.]

But I didn't claim to be trustworthy, did I?

No, you didn't.

[He shrugs a little bit.]

But with the way things have been around here? You should be.

[And his hand curls around the flag again as he scoots over, going for the kill.]

[nice try, gabe. naptime for you.]

[He's out like a light, his head slamming against the ground using his arm as a pillow. He might even be drooling a little bit.]

[well that's attractive. he'll just...replace the flag again, and nudge gabe away from it a bit with his foot before taking up his seat again.]

[The nudging stirs him a little, but it only causes him to roll over and start snoring.

Loudly and obnoxiously.]

[well, so much for getting to relax a bit more. but hey, maybe his snoring will scare off other enemy players. they might thinks someone has a chainsaw or something.]

[Gabriel wiggles about in his sleep, rolling away from the flag. It looks like Saralegui might have this one down pat.]

[thank the gods. it's not like he really wants to be devoting any real effort to this game.]
