Who: The entire camp + special guests.
What: Wolves have broken through the camp barriers!
When: Late Wednesday January 29 into early morning on January 30
Where: Various camp locations.
Why: Some canines think they can show Camp Half-Blood who's boss.

It starts with a scream.

The evening harpies, better known as camp's alert system for kids who are out past curfew, have some news for everyone, flying through the camp and shrieking through cabin doors to wake everyone up if they're asleep. (Unless, of course, you're untrained and too young or incapable of fighting tonight. Demeter cabin will be your place of refuge.) After the first call to duty, campers have risen to the occasion with their various plans and promises, patrolling the border and building weapons specifically for their new enemies. The Full Moon passed with only a few howls, much to the surprise of many.

No, these wolves have other plans for the New Moon. Aligned with Gaea and followers of Lycaron, they're a group of six renegades looking for a show and perhaps a tasty snack. One of them just so happens to be in the business of fussing with the Mist, undoing someone's hard work to let in her comrades.

They've got bared teeth, blood on their nails, and a penchant for chaos. Camp, it's time to wake up.

Hey. Naomi, right? [Eponine approaches the girl carefully, taking a seat in front of her.]

You doing okay? [Who the hell let her be in charge of the children? Gabriel, why did you think this was a good idea? Because it's not.]

Y'want a Snickers bar? [She holds one out for her.]

[serenesuccessor]

'm okay.

[She wasn't, not really. Nodding she takes the snickers bar, even though she doesn't really like them.]

Ummmm, you're Eponine, right?

[ospreyed]

[So her reputation proceeded it.

Eponine nodded, but doesn't remark on the scared thing. Naomi was trying to put on a brave face, and she wasn't going to ruin it for her.]

That's me. I figured I'd hang out with you guys tonight, instead of joining in the battle. You're cooler, anyway. I mean, Charlie's got a fort going on over there.

[serenesuccessor]

[She nibbles on the snickers bar listening to Eponine. Then she frowns, thoughtfully.]

You threw up on Tai.

[It's really a statement, but she does wait for confirmation before she continues.]

Are you feeling any better? 'Cause being sick stinks.

[ospreyed]

Yes, I did.

[She doesn't regret it. Tai was an asshole.

Oh. Sick. She thought that, too. Dropping her head, she shrugged.] Yeah, it does. [Okay, so that didn't answer the question, not really.] I'm alright.

[serenesuccessor]

I threw up on him too when I was sick once. He screamed like a girl.

[At the time she would have laughed if she hadn't been feeling sick.

Nodding she finishes the snickers bar, then returns to hugging her knees.]

My Mama always makes me chicken soup when I don't feel good, so maybe if you feel sick again we can get you some?

[Because all she'd known is Eponine had been sick and in Naomi's mind that sick meant the flu or something.

It didn't help that Tai had totally agreed and told her it was a flu bug.]

[ospreyed]

Yeah, he does that. I also screamed when I threw things at him.

[Eponine, unwittingly, extends a hand and places it on Naomi's back.] Yeah? I wasn't really hungry that whole month... [Even now, her appetite still errs on the non-existent side.] But how could I turn that down?

[serenesuccessor]

[Pause and then-]

Oooh! You're why he screamed when I threw a pillow at him last week!

[Her hands move to cover her giggles. The contact makes her feel a bit more at ease.]

I'll ask my Mama how she makes them 'nd maybe she can send some to camp with Tai next time he visits them!

[ospreyed]

If that's my legacy at camp, so be it.

[That, and getting everyone cursed, and boning Mr. D's son on the strawberry fields. And the Apollo Scouts.]

She'd do that? [Eponine looks at her curiously. Not her typical view or motherhood.] For real?

It's a funny one.

[She smiles up at Eponine, and gives a nod.]

Yeah! 'course she would! Especially if she knows you were sick. Then she'd probably send you all sorts of things to eat when you feel better.

[ospreyed]

Woah.

[That's... really unheard of. Especially in her life. Sure, Charlie brought cookies, but actually sending it to camp? To some random kid she doesn't even know?]

That... You don't have to do that, Nao.

[serenesuccessor]

I wouldn't be doin' it though. My Mama would.

[She blinks, tilting her head a little though the smile widens a little.]

Are you friends with Gaaabe? 'cause he's the only one here that calls me Nao. Um. Besides Tai. But Tai says you don't like him too much.

[ospreyed]

She doesn't have to do it.

Gabe gave me these pants. [She gestures] He's one of my... [Woah] my best friends here.

And Tai's... he's a jerk.

He's a really good guy! Back when we were kidnapped by the stupid place he protecte-

[And all the praise she had for Gabriel stops short as she stares at Eponine.]

Tai is not a jerk.

Maybe not to you.

[Let's talk about something else.]

But yeah, that sounds just like Gabe. He came to hang out with me when everyone went into the city. Kicked his butt at monopoly.

Sometimes Tai does really stupid things and he thinks he's helping but sometimes makes things worse. But he always means well. My brother always says he's actually incapable of being mean! Li-Like one time when I was little I got made and I tried running away 'nd he found me 'nd dragged me home and I thought he was a jerk for doing that! But he really wasn't.

Well, then maybe I just haven't realized he's trying to help me yet.

[serenesuccessor]

Could be, 'cause I know he was worried about you.

[He didn't say why though when she asked.]

Sometimes he's just really dumb, especially when it comes to girls.

[Sagely nod.]

[ospreyed]

He was... worried about me?

[serenesuccessor]

Yeah. 'Course he was. I think a lotta people were worried 'cause you were sick.

[And Naomi does not understand why that's such a big deal. Which is exactly why she reaches over to one of the candy bowls set up and fishes out two tootsie pops, offering one to Eponine.]

[ospreyed]

They... they were? [This was new information.] Who? What did they tell you about it?

[She happily accepts the tootsie pop.]

I... Uh.

[Naomi blinks, taken aback by this.]

Ummm, well Tai was. So was Gabriel, 'nd Dave went to the Big House a lot so I figure he must've been visiting you!

They didn't tell me much? 'Cause I didn't ask since Tai told me you were sick!

[ospreyed]

You're a doll.

[She stuck the now unwrapped tootsie pop in her mouth.]

Wait, you know Dave, too? [She smiles at his name.]

[Naomi's not exactly sure what she did to be called a doll but she gives Eponine a bright smile.]

Yeah! He was my first friend when I came to camp 'nd he's always watching out for me. He's um, kinda like my brother? But I never told him that so I don't know how he'd react...

[There's a shyness that comes with that.]

[Eponine nods slowly. Sounds like Dave, to be honest.] Well, I think he'd be flattered. But I won't tell him, your secret is safe with me.

[And as for how she knew Dave... She gestures for Naomi to lean it.] Can you keep a secret?
