Of course Peeta's doing something for his brother's birthday, although unlike the café last month, this is more low-key and informal. Over the past couple of days he's spread the word around camp quietly, a word in an ear at a pegasus riding lesson or at an encounter on the training fields, and hopefully no one's told Jehan. When the time finally comes for the party, a collusion with Naomi has gotten Jehan away from their cabin to help her practice her powers. Though knowing Naomi, she'll likely end up in a tree somehow. At least it gives him and whoever shows up to help him time to set up.

There's food, of course, though it's all simple stuff this time and not anything so elaborate as Valentine's Day: various sandwiches, vegetable sticks, fruit slices, a few bowls of candy and pretzels. And of course a cake, because this is Demeter Cabin and this is just what they do, and Jehan has a sweet tooth that's bigger than his body. Anyone's welcome to stop by and grab some food or say hi to the birthday boy, but any fighting will be ejected in a rugby tackle from Peeta so just warnin'.

Okay, okay, y'know what? Fine. Fine. Jehan was Eponine's friend.

There. Are you happy now?

Gods.

And because they were friends, well, she was at the party. A little awkwardly, unsure of what even to do. These sort of parties were not her forté. Usually, she'd stuff her face with the food, but she couldn't even bring herself to do that. Well, at least the bruising from her fight with Margot was fading.

If he was shocked to see Nico, Jehan was floored to see Eponine. He didn't expect her to show up, especially not after his message this morning, and seeing her there is a wonderful surprise. He comes over, smiling softly and waving. Hugs likely wouldn't be enjoyed.

"Eponine! Thank you for coming--are you hungry?"

[ospreyed]

Yeah, she was more than a lot irritated about that, but she wasn't going to call him out about it. She had some class, contrary to popular belief. Besides, she'd heard the hubbub from two certain bffs of hers.

"It's no problem- we are friends." Yes, there was that word again, that she'd thrown back in his face so long ago on the beach. But it was true, and the word could be used to her advantage. "I'm alright. I ate earlier."

Eponine no. Do not make Jehan prove things to you.

"Are you sure?" He doesn't really believe Eponine, though he's trying not to be obvious about it. "Peeta made a cake!"

[ospreyed]

"Yeah," she lies with ease, one of her natural gifts. She'd always been odd with eating. Though, cake...

"What type?"

[shylyintrepid]

There's a moment of surprise as Jehan realizes that he doesn't. actually. know what sort of cake his brother made him. Hm.

"I haven't had any yet, but it's Peeta. It's bound to be good," he says eventually, one hundred percent certain of this fact.

[ospreyed]

Foiled again.

"Huh. Well, we'll see. I'm not a huge cake fan." On top of the fact that she was a weird eater to begin with.

[shylyintrepid]

"Oh, but you have to try a tiny slice! Just a few bites--it's good luck!" He has no idea if it is or not but he just has a feeling that he should press a little more. "For my birthday?"

[ospreyed]

"You just made that up. There is no good lucky birthday cake tradition." But, she rolls her eyes. "I'll have a bite or something, okay?"

No. She won't.

[shylyintrepid]

"Promise me?" He gives her a look. "And there probably is too such a tradition! There's a tradition about everything."

[ospreyed]

"Okay, what is that look?" She's not making any promises, Jehan. She was so recently called out for being a liar, after all.

"I don't think you can just randomly decide something is going to be a tradition, y'know."

[shylyintrepid]

He just ignores that first question. "But that's how traditions get started, Ep!" he points out. "Someone just goes 'oh, we'll do this from now on'. Like fashion."

[ospreyed]

"So you're going to use the most hated camper to try to start a new, positive tradition?" Okay, it's your birthday, but that's stretching it.

[shylyintrepid]

He snorts. "You are not the most hated camper," he says, certain of this. "I'm fairly certain Allison Argent is."

[ospreyed]

Eponine rolls her eyes. She kinda wanted that title, Jehan, thank you so much. "Yeah? She just nearly got us killed. I got all of our fun taken away. Kind of a toss-up, don't you think?"

[shylyintrepid]

"Fun we weren't supposed to have anyway. Really, Mr. D was slacking, letting it go as long as he did. Allison wins. Or loses. Whichever."

[ospreyed]

"That's the best kind of fun," she says pointedly. Honestly, she's still pissed off about it all. The mental aspects of withdrawal were still very much alive within her.

"I guess Hermes' kids can't take all the glory."
