Of course Peeta's doing something for his brother's birthday, although unlike the café last month, this is more low-key and informal. Over the past couple of days he's spread the word around camp quietly, a word in an ear at a pegasus riding lesson or at an encounter on the training fields, and hopefully no one's told Jehan. When the time finally comes for the party, a collusion with Naomi has gotten Jehan away from their cabin to help her practice her powers. Though knowing Naomi, she'll likely end up in a tree somehow. At least it gives him and whoever shows up to help him time to set up.

There's food, of course, though it's all simple stuff this time and not anything so elaborate as Valentine's Day: various sandwiches, vegetable sticks, fruit slices, a few bowls of candy and pretzels. And of course a cake, because this is Demeter Cabin and this is just what they do, and Jehan has a sweet tooth that's bigger than his body. Anyone's welcome to stop by and grab some food or say hi to the birthday boy, but any fighting will be ejected in a rugby tackle from Peeta so just warnin'.

Elsa had volunteered to help with something small, and that something small happened to be the drinks and ice cubes for those drinks. The ice cubes had taken a little trial-and-error before she'd finally gotten them into the shape she desired. The ice cubes had the shapes of various flowers, most notably roses, bluebells, tulips, and morning glories. Small, but it made her very happy to be able to do those without mishap.

She was going to be something of a wallflower, though. Not that she'd mind talking to people if they wanted to talk to her, of course! Unlike a certain son of Hades.

Nico was going to be the biggest wallflower in the face of existence. The amount of people sort of reminded him how, ah, gregarious Jehan was. He was sticking to a corner that was out-of-the-way and in shadow. Possibly pining because this was Nico di Angelo and he was a hardcore shipper of himself/unrequited love (at least to him).

Ugh. He just had to like the guys who were ridiculous social butterflies.

Excuse you, she did not get stuck in a tree once!

Mostly because Jehan wouldn't let her go near any while they were practicing. But that was besides the point! The point was that she had very successfully distracted Jehan until party time, and barely contained her excitement when she ran ahead to their cabin to give them warning he was coming.

Once the surprise was done she's set about eating the sweets laid out, as well as going around making sure everyone was alright. Odds are any wallflowers will at least be hearing from her once or twice during the celebration, mostly to see if they want anything.

Okay, okay, y'know what? Fine. Fine. Jehan was Eponine's friend.

There. Are you happy now?

Gods.

And because they were friends, well, she was at the party. A little awkwardly, unsure of what even to do. These sort of parties were not her forté. Usually, she'd stuff her face with the food, but she couldn't even bring herself to do that. Well, at least the bruising from her fight with Margot was fading.

While Eponine was a grumpy wallflower, Annie was not grumpy. In fact, she was just better at standing to the side and observing than anything else. With a small plate of fruits, Annie watches contentedly. She's not about to start conversation needlessly, but she's open to it, if someone saw fit to speak to her.

It really is a lovely party.

"Elsa!"

Jehan was going around, thanking everyone for the wonderful surprise in between his tears (of joy). The bullshit earlier today had ruined his mood but this--this had fixed that right up. He hurries over to Anna's sister and reaches for her hand.

"Thank you so much for this! Did you do the ice? They're lovely!"

Surprise, Nico! As soon as Jehan spots him, he hurries over to the Hades boy and pulls him into the biggest hug ever.

"Bonjour, Nico!" He kisses his cheek, smiling. "There, now if you wish to leave all the people you can without feeling guilty. I won't make you stay, if you'd rather not."

During one of Naomi's rounds about the cabin, her older brother manages to grab her arm and promptly start messing with her hair, grinning.

"Brat! You were a distraction, oui?"

If he was shocked to see Nico, Jehan was floored to see Eponine. He didn't expect her to show up, especially not after his message this morning, and seeing her there is a wonderful surprise. He comes over, smiling softly and waving. Hugs likely wouldn't be enjoyed.

"Eponine! Thank you for coming--are you hungry?"

Jehan doesn't recognize this girl, beyond her being Percy's Roman sister. After seeing to his friends, Jehan goes over with a polite smile.

"Bonjour. Thank you for coming to the party I didn't know I was having!"

Charlie may not know Jehan that well, but he is Naomi's brother and he does seem to be having a pretty bad time with the angry girl brigade (one of its members being his sister.) Parties are always a good way to cheer people up and once he heard about it, he had spent a good amount of his time between his other hobbies at camp and made party hats.

Yes, party hats.

They're you're typical conical ones with little pom-poms on the tops and he's decorated each one by hand. As soon as he arrives, he's out handing them out to as many people as he can, including you sulking wallflowers.

So Charlie is the single most adorable person in camp not related to Jehan himself. It has been decided. Jehan sees the party hats and can't help but be utterly enchanted, going over to Charlie with a smile. "These are amazing! Did you make them?"

"Yep! I even made you a special one, hold on!" From the depths of the bag he's got all the hats in, he pulls out the best one of them all -- it's made of gold construction paper, a little banged up from being with all the others, but it's shaped like a crown and covered in glitter and flowers.

Demeter is the flower cabin, after all, so it only seemed right.

Jehan just laughs and happily takes the crown, though it's just a tad too small for his head. Still, he has no shame and will wear it proudly.

"You're amazing," he says, giving Charlie a quick hug. "I absolutely love it."

She can't help a grin, and blushes a little in embarrassment. Elsa grips his hand in a friendly fashion.

"I did! I thought it would be good practice to work from something small into something bigger." With her other hand, she reaches into her pocket and pulls out a small, wrapped box. Inside he'll find a couple packets of snowdrop seeds. "Happy birthday, Jehan."

When he opens it, he can't help but laugh. "Oh, how appropriate! I'll be sure to plant these as soon as I can," Jehan promises as he pockets the packets. "I've never grown these before. It'll be exciting!"

He thinks his brain just fried for a second there. He just isn't expecting both a hug and a kiss at the same time. Why does he like the crazy and affectionate guys? Like seriously?

"What, and miss the look on your face when I give you your present?" Nico rolls his eyes, though his tone is teasing. He pulls out a slim, wrapped parcel from his jacket once Jehan lets him go, and hands it to him. It's a book with various poems in it. There's also a bookmark on the page that has The Lady of Shalott.

In Jehan's defense, he's French and was raised in a very affectionate household. Nico should have seen this coming.

Just like he should have seen the look of utter joy on Jehan's face when he's handed the book and the slightly unearthly sound of glee when he sees the poem the book is marked to.

"How did you know my copy of Shalott was ruined?" he asks, hugging the book to his chest for a moment. "The book it was in had a hot chocolate dropped on it!"

She sighs ruefully.

"They're also my favorite flower. My father used to keep a small garden of them near the window of my room. He was good with snowdrops and roses, but I don't know if he was anything spectacular with other flowers. I hope these aren't too difficult for you."

"Oh, please. Flowers? Difficult for me?" And now he's a little proud. "You haven't seen my poisons yet. I've been keeping them alive during this crazy winter with little effort!"

Nico blushes, and it only gets worse when he mentions Shalott.

"Uh...well," he runs a hand through his hair nervously, "That particular poem is a favorite of mine. I had my mom read it to me a lot when I was little, and she'd helped me interpret it."

He thinks the Fates are dying of laughter somewhere out there.

Yeah, she was more than a lot irritated about that, but she wasn't going to call him out about it. She had some class, contrary to popular belief. Besides, she'd heard the hubbub from two certain bffs of hers.

"It's no problem- we are friends." Yes, there was that word again, that she'd thrown back in his face so long ago on the beach. But it was true, and the word could be used to her advantage. "I'm alright. I ate earlier."

Elsa laughs at that.

"I should know better than to doubt a child of Demeter's ability to grow plants!" She frowns a little at the crazy winter part. "This isn't normal for New York City?"

[annieisntokay]

Annie laughs lightly. "Haha, thanks. Peeta mentioned it, I thought, well, more the merrier, right? I mean, if you don't want me here, I can leave. That's really, ah, not a problem. I don't want to intrude or anything." Annie shifts, setting down her plate.

"But Happy Birthday!"

They totally are and do not care if anyone hears them.

If it were possible, Jehan would be grinning even more at that. "I adore King Arthur and this poem," he explains. "I have a whole collection of Arthurian stories, if you'd like to read them! I'll be happy to share my books with you, Nico."
