Of course Peeta's doing something for his brother's birthday, although unlike the café last month, this is more low-key and informal. Over the past couple of days he's spread the word around camp quietly, a word in an ear at a pegasus riding lesson or at an encounter on the training fields, and hopefully no one's told Jehan. When the time finally comes for the party, a collusion with Naomi has gotten Jehan away from their cabin to help her practice her powers. Though knowing Naomi, she'll likely end up in a tree somehow. At least it gives him and whoever shows up to help him time to set up.

There's food, of course, though it's all simple stuff this time and not anything so elaborate as Valentine's Day: various sandwiches, vegetable sticks, fruit slices, a few bowls of candy and pretzels. And of course a cake, because this is Demeter Cabin and this is just what they do, and Jehan has a sweet tooth that's bigger than his body. Anyone's welcome to stop by and grab some food or say hi to the birthday boy, but any fighting will be ejected in a rugby tackle from Peeta so just warnin'.

So Charlie is the single most adorable person in camp not related to Jehan himself. It has been decided. Jehan sees the party hats and can't help but be utterly enchanted, going over to Charlie with a smile. "These are amazing! Did you make them?"

"Yep! I even made you a special one, hold on!" From the depths of the bag he's got all the hats in, he pulls out the best one of them all -- it's made of gold construction paper, a little banged up from being with all the others, but it's shaped like a crown and covered in glitter and flowers.

Demeter is the flower cabin, after all, so it only seemed right.

Jehan just laughs and happily takes the crown, though it's just a tad too small for his head. Still, he has no shame and will wear it proudly.

"You're amazing," he says, giving Charlie a quick hug. "I absolutely love it."

This is what happens when Charlie uses his head for the measurements of all the hats -- too small. Not that he seems to care, though, hugging Jehan back happily.

"I also got you a present, too! 'Cause everyone needs presents on their birthday."

He foists another item off onto Jehan, a rectangular package wrapped in bright tissue paper. Whenever he opens, Jehan will find a deck of playing cards. They're handmade out of cardstock with pictures of the Olympian deities on most of them and motifs used from around the camp (pegasi, strawberries, arrows, etc.)

When he sees what the present is, Jehan's delighted. "Where did you find these? Did you make them yourself?" He flips through them, impressed and amazed by the deck.

And he gets the point, too. "We'll start poker lessons soon."

Charlie's intention hadn't been to ask about the lessons in a roundabout way, but hey -- it works. He beams brightly. "Okay! And yeah, I made them myself! You said you needed a deck and what better than a custom one?"

Man, he is so proud he thought of that, you can see it written all over his face. "I kinda wasn't sure what you liked, but I thought the was a good idea, what I put on there."

"It's perfect! I've never had a nicer deck," he says, completely honest. "I think there's some waterproofing solution in the Athena cabin or the arts and crafts cabin. We can find some later and make sure these cards'll last a good long while, yes?"

"I hadn't even thought about that, okay!" Jehan, you have the best ideas. "So how's your birthday so far? Did you try the cake yet?"

Of course he does. "I haven't, no. I've been too busy with all of my friends to even sit down!" Jehan admits. "So many people, not nearly enough time."

"Big parties are the greatest like that, but you gotta take care of yourself!" The whole looking out for Eponine thing has been wearing on him; he's picked up some mother hen tendencies. "Go sit down and I'll get you cake!"
