Of course Peeta's doing something for his brother's birthday, although unlike the café last month, this is more low-key and informal. Over the past couple of days he's spread the word around camp quietly, a word in an ear at a pegasus riding lesson or at an encounter on the training fields, and hopefully no one's told Jehan. When the time finally comes for the party, a collusion with Naomi has gotten Jehan away from their cabin to help her practice her powers. Though knowing Naomi, she'll likely end up in a tree somehow. At least it gives him and whoever shows up to help him time to set up.

There's food, of course, though it's all simple stuff this time and not anything so elaborate as Valentine's Day: various sandwiches, vegetable sticks, fruit slices, a few bowls of candy and pretzels. And of course a cake, because this is Demeter Cabin and this is just what they do, and Jehan has a sweet tooth that's bigger than his body. Anyone's welcome to stop by and grab some food or say hi to the birthday boy, but any fighting will be ejected in a rugby tackle from Peeta so just warnin'.

"It's not hard, you know." It's a little dig on the outfits Jehan wears, but not an outright one and not one where Gabriel's trying to be mean on purpose - and really, for someone who isn't a son of Apollo, Jehan shines like the sun. So at the end of the day, there is some truth to it.

He leans in and presses a kiss back to Jehan's cheek, pulling the younger boy in tightly. "Happy birthday, you big dork."

"I will ignore your first comment to focus on that last one: I am not a dork!" he declares, laughing. "Have you eaten or tried the cake yet? It's heavenly, and Elsa made little flower ice cubes!"

[angeliaforos]

"Yeah, yeah. Keep telling yourself that, Prouvaire." He grins a little and pats Jehan on the back, before shrugging. "No, I haven't, yet. Been mingling, mostly." Mingling and watching like a damn hawk.

[shylyintrepid]

That piques Jehan's curiosity. "Mingling? With who? Did you meet someone new?" He thought Gabe knew the entire camp.

[angeliaforos]

"Nah, not really." Which is total bull, of course, but he's keeping it cool. It's what he does. "Your present's coming in, by the way. You're gonna fucking love it, dude."

[shylyintrepid]

Jehan grins. "You didn't have to...but I'm glad you did," he laughs. "What did you get me, then?"

[angeliaforos]

"Uh, yes, I totally did." He gives Jehan a flat look. It's the kid's birthday. It was important that Gabriel got him something.

(Plus, he's kind of wondering how the Demeter boy's gonna top it for his own birthday later in the month. Jehan's always good about gifts.)

"Oh, I'm gonna get you actual good chocolate once we can get out of this place. None of the vegan shit Ma gives us."

Jehan makes a pleased noise and hugs Gabriel even tighter. "Oh, you're my favorite," he declares. "Can we make a trip to France for it? Or Austria? I'll pay!"

[angeliaforos]

He's not expecting the new hug, and there's a little 'oof' noise, but he manages to catch Jehan and squeezes the French boy around his middle. "Wait, wait, wait, hold up." He stops himself, holding out his hands in front of Jehan. "You just suggested we go to freaking Europe for chocolate, JP. Just willy-nilly."

"You said the good chocolate," Jehan points out. "The best chocolate is in Europe and anyone who says otherwise is a heretic who should be burned at the stake."

[angeliaforos]

He answers very calmly back. "Then I'm a heretic who should be burned at the stake. The best chocolate is made in East West Bumblefuck, Pennsylvania. In Hershey, Jehan. Our economy is failing, Jehan. Boost the American economy, Jehan." He looks a little desperate, now. "Reeses' Peanut Butter Cups, Jehan."

That gets Jehan to gasp in horror. "I will never eat chocolate peanut butter anything!" he declares as dramatically as possibly, half swooning. "You won't be burned because I love you too much, mon ami, but you must take that back!"

[angeliaforos]

"Okay, okay. No reason to get worked up about it, dude." He shakes his head, holding out his hands. "But have you ever even had chocolate peanut butter anything?"

[shylyintrepid]

"Yes. It's disgusting." There will be no arguing with him on this, so Gabriel might as well give up.

[angeliaforos]

He peers down at Jehan, his eyebrows raised. "You, my friend, are one of the most confusing people I've ever met."

He proceeds to lead himself over to the cakes, sort of expecting Jehan to go follow him. The sentence doesn't seem finished.

[shylyintrepid]

And of course he follows.

"I will take that as a compliment," he informs Gabriel, smiling sweetly. "I do not want to be normal. It's boring and if I were normal I would die."

[angeliaforos]

"Seriously, though," he says, cutting himself an over-large piece of cake and a fork, moving to go sit on one of the unused beds in the cabin. "You're like, one of the most decadent people I know and you're against chocolate and peanut butter. The fuck is that, JP?"

[shylyintrepid]

"I am not decadent!" He huffs, snagging an apple. "I just like quality chocolates and fancy pastries. That's it. Peanut butter and chocolate is a sin."

[angeliaforos]

Most people are not here to argue semantics. Gabriel is not most people. "Uh, dude. You just told me to go to France or Austria with you, just out of the blue. I've barely been out of Ohio, besides here and quests. That's pretty damn decadent."

[shylyintrepid]

"For an American, possibly. I am French, you know. Austria is a day trip to me!" Jehan points out. "And it isn't decadent to want to take my friends to my homeland!"

[angeliaforos]

"Which I will never not be jealous of you. Do you know what a day trip is for me? Going into Cleveland proper, dude." Because he does live in the city, but on the outskirts.

"I guess I should brush up on my French, then, huh?" Oh, yeah. This is happening, hell or high water.

[shylyintrepid]

"Or let me translate," he agrees, hugging Gabriel again. "Oh, it'll be so much fun!"

[angeliaforos]

Gabe's happy to hug Jehan around his middle again, just grinning. "I'm gonna come back so fucking fat. I mean, I know you're a good cook and all, but this is France."
