Who's Strong and Brave Here to Save the American Way?

Who: Steve Rogers, Annabeth Chase, an NPC demigod...and a surprise
What: Going to get the demigod Tybalt and Dave heard about in Saratoga Springs.
Where: Northern New York
When: May 14-15th
Why: Because Captain America

For once, this quest doesn't have an official prophecy telling the questors to go. This time, it's mostly a warning.

Where the cat and red-eyed one had gone
To save this child they need brains, then brawn.
Siblings two shall go forth
And one shall come into his worth.

But mind the dangers in the Springs
For there shall be one to pull the strings
Of others that are still unknown
And one who will one day atone.

They had planned to send Annabeth anyway, but the prophecy mentioned siblings so Chiron (reluctantly) told Steve that he was going to get to go on this quest as Edmund was too new. There's no big to-do over this one, though there's still a chance to tell the two good-bye.

[So Bucky may be a little...unsure about sending Steve on this quest, but dammit if he's going Bucky is going to make sure he has supplies.

That's why he's waiting for the two Athena kids at the tree with a small bag]

[Steve is -- to be honest, a mixture of about five million different emotions. But winning out over them is some kind of nervous excitement. He finally gets a chance to prove himself, to help out the little guy despite Chiron's reluctance and everyone else's hesitancy. This is his one big chance, and he really hopes he doesn't blow it. So when he sees Bucky, he promptly heads over for a tight hug and gives him a nervous grin.]

This is gonna be weird, not doin' this with you.

[Bucky hugs him back, tight and firm]

Tell me about it. I'm gonna be worried until you and Annabeth get back with that kid. But--

[And now he pulls back, holding up the bag]

Ambrosia, nectar, inhaler, allergy medicine. I know Annabeth probably has all that stuff already but better safe than sorry.

Yeah, an' I've got an inhaler too. Somewhere. [He takes the bag with a little nod, makes sure it's somewhere he can keep an eye on it.]

Don't worry too much, I'll try an' say hello if we have time.

Steve, it's you. I'm gonna worry--mostly that you'll get into a fight with someone you shouldn't.

Well, it's a quest, I probably will.

[He's only been here for about a night, but...well. It's polite to wish his two new older siblings luck, right?

Ugh. Edmund still isn't thrilled about this. Two more siblings trying to be his parents when they're clearly not ugh. At least, this has been the extent of his experience with Peter and Susan.]

You have everything you need?

[ Annabeth has a Feeling about Edmund but family is family and she does want to be accommodating since transitioning into camp is difficult on many. ]

Always prepared. I'm sorry I can't be around for your first days at camp, though, but I can point you towards trustworthy people if you have questions.

[He shakes his head, hands in his pockets. Edmund won't turn down an opportunity to learn more, though.]

It's fine. I'll take recommendations. What exactly is this quest for? If you've got time to talk.

[For all his faults, Edmund really doesn't want to hold her or Steve up if they have somewhere to get to urgently.]

Any of the counselors to start. Have you talked to Elizabeth Comstock yet? She's not a counselor, but I definitely trust her to help you out. Natalie Goodman's been here almost as long as I have, too. [ Nat'd laugh to know that Annabeth's telling someone else to seek her out for advice, but hey. ]

We're just dealing with a problematic step-father, here. He doesn't want his kid to learn about her powers or her parentage. It's a standard quest, actually, picking up campers and introducing them to everyone.

Uh...Elizabeth is the Hunter, right? I've met her once. Which cabin is Natalie?

[Edmund frowns. That doesn't jive well with him, but maybe that's just because his mother kept it from him until only a day or two ago.]

Any particular reason he's not wanting her to know?

Steve! [and here's Hazel, bounding towards him.]

I was afraid you left already!

Nah, Bucky wouldn't forgive me if I left without sayin' goodbye.

[cavalrys]

Good. I wouldn't forgive you, either. [She blushes as she comes to stand in front of him.] I just, ah... I wanted to say goodbye. And- [Now or never, Hazel. Just remember: he's worth it.]

And to wish you good luck. [She leans in, kissing him on the cheek as she blushes violently.]

[--And he kind of immediately goes all pink and pulls away, really hoping he doesn't look as startled as he feels.]

I, uh, thanks.

You don't need to thank me, Steve.

[She can feel the heat from her cheeks, but her eyes are now trained on the ground as what looks like a sapphire rises up from the dirt just behind Steve.]

I just, uhm... Maybe I could do that again? When- when you get back?

[She's messed up. She knows she has. He doesn't like her. He's polite to her out of obligation and good manners. But he'd never be with her, an assertive, cursed black girl.]

[Steve's her friend, and she's always had a great deal of respect for Annabeth, so of course she's going to wish them well. Her fellow counselor first.]


Good luck, Annabeth. Steve couldn't have a better quest-mate to accompany him.


[And of course Steve, who gets a hug and a friendly kiss to his cheek if he doesn't seem inclined to refuse.]

You're going to do great. If things look rocky [LBR, these things always get rocky] just trust Annabeth...and your gut. Athena's kids have great intuition. [She beams at him.]

[ Annabeth gives a modest salute though her smile is anything but. ]

We'll be just fine. I've been doing this for years. Mostly, I'm glad I get to be the one to show my brother the ropes.

I know. [Seriously, Lydia's got nothing but admiration for the apple of Athena's eye.] He's a sweet guy. I have no doubt you'll take good care of him.

He is sweet, but I can tell that there's a real toughness to him that will make him a good quester. [ She hasn't known him for very long, but Annabeth is incredibly fond of Steve. She admires him for working hard in spite of his weaknesses. ]

[Lydia nods her agreement.] The ones who have to prove the most always work the hardest. [She knows a little something about that. There's a certain expectation about Aphrodite cabin and knowing little more than how to use makeup and how to have an ideal tanning experience.]

[thestarspangledman]

[--Man, all the girls are determined to make him blush as much as he can today, aren't they. He is quite possibly going even pinker than he had when Hazel kissed him, and answering in a sort of stammer.]

I, uh, hope so.

I know so. You'll be great. I'll see you when you get back, okay? All the luck. Though you won't need it, because between you and Annabeth, you'll be just fine. [She has 100% faith in both of them.]
