Who's Strong and Brave Here to Save the American Way?

Who: Steve Rogers, Annabeth Chase, an NPC demigod...and a surprise
What: Going to get the demigod Tybalt and Dave heard about in Saratoga Springs.
Where: Northern New York
When: May 14-15th
Why: Because Captain America

For once, this quest doesn't have an official prophecy telling the questors to go. This time, it's mostly a warning.

Where the cat and red-eyed one had gone
To save this child they need brains, then brawn.
Siblings two shall go forth
And one shall come into his worth.

But mind the dangers in the Springs
For there shall be one to pull the strings
Of others that are still unknown
And one who will one day atone.

They had planned to send Annabeth anyway, but the prophecy mentioned siblings so Chiron (reluctantly) told Steve that he was going to get to go on this quest as Edmund was too new. There's no big to-do over this one, though there's still a chance to tell the two good-bye.

[So Bucky may be a little...unsure about sending Steve on this quest, but dammit if he's going Bucky is going to make sure he has supplies.

That's why he's waiting for the two Athena kids at the tree with a small bag]

[Steve is -- to be honest, a mixture of about five million different emotions. But winning out over them is some kind of nervous excitement. He finally gets a chance to prove himself, to help out the little guy despite Chiron's reluctance and everyone else's hesitancy. This is his one big chance, and he really hopes he doesn't blow it. So when he sees Bucky, he promptly heads over for a tight hug and gives him a nervous grin.]

This is gonna be weird, not doin' this with you.

[He's only been here for about a night, but...well. It's polite to wish his two new older siblings luck, right?

Ugh. Edmund still isn't thrilled about this. Two more siblings trying to be his parents when they're clearly not ugh. At least, this has been the extent of his experience with Peter and Susan.]

[ Annabeth has a Feeling about Edmund but family is family and she does want to be accommodating since transitioning into camp is difficult on many. ]

Always prepared. I'm sorry I can't be around for your first days at camp, though, but I can point you towards trustworthy people if you have questions.

[Steve's her friend, and she's always had a great deal of respect for Annabeth, so of course she's going to wish them well. Her fellow counselor first.]


Good luck, Annabeth. Steve couldn't have a better quest-mate to accompany him.


[And of course Steve, who gets a hug and a friendly kiss to his cheek if he doesn't seem inclined to refuse.]

You're going to do great. If things look rocky [LBR, these things always get rocky] just trust Annabeth...and your gut. Athena's kids have great intuition. [She beams at him.]

[ Annabeth gives a modest salute though her smile is anything but. ]

We'll be just fine. I've been doing this for years. Mostly, I'm glad I get to be the one to show my brother the ropes.

[--Man, all the girls are determined to make him blush as much as he can today, aren't they. He is quite possibly going even pinker than he had when Hazel kissed him, and answering in a sort of stammer.]

I, uh, hope so.

THE ACTUAL RETREVIAL

[The house that Tybalt and Dave eventually pinpointed as the one with the demigod is on the outskirts of town, by itself. The whole area feels tense and unwelcoming.

The reason the demigod hasn't left yet is the stepfather. The stepfather is paranoid and does not trust the outside world. Annabeth and Steve will have to think up a way to get him to let his stepkid come to camp.

And if they think they see someone on the edges of the property or near the house, well. They must be seeing things]

[ Annabeth takes the lead as she naturally does. She definitely wants this to be a good learning experience for Steve and won't hold onto the reins too tightly today. The train up seems to be the fastest - the pegasi were tempting but she doesn't want them both to worry about Steve up in the air. On the way there, she tells him a few stories about the first retrieval quests she went on with Percy and Thalia; small, melancholy smile forms on her face when she talks admiringly about her absent boyfriend and her best friend.

The walk from the train station to the house is longer than she hoped but she thinks they'll be fine so long as they stay alert, hands on their weapons. ]

They really don't want visitors here, huh.

[He listens to those stories with great interest (and some apprehensiveness), mentally taking notes should they happen to run into any beasties or anything on the way there. Maybe it's best to just treat it like he did Brooklyn: be casual, but on your toes just in case of anything.

The weapon he's opted for in this case is a knife, not trusting his hand-eye coordination well enough yet to ask to borrow one of Bucky's guns, and of course there's the shield at his back. The knife was the easiest to reach at the moment, though. In any case, he follows along, keeping an eye out for anything that seems strange.]

I guess not. Who knew upstate could be so unfriendly?

[So this is a thing. They're back!]

what can we say? Hazel has a type.

[If they'd had to burn one of the burial shrouds... It was a terribly terribly terrible tradition, if you asked Hazel. But, the second she sees the van coming around the corner, it's what she thinks of. That, and the promise she made Steve, to kiss him (properly this time) when he got back.

She's waiting anxiously by the Big House when Argus stops the van, a few pieces of what looks like onyx at her feet.]

[Unfortunately, Hazel, Bucky takes priority. Because that's just how things roll, in Steve-land. So once he's reassured Bucky and gotten gawked at, he heads over to the rest of the people waiting to greet him, looking a little awkward.]

[So okay, Lydia? Is taken, not dead.

It is very, very difficult to Not Stare at Steve, so she doesn't even both trying to keep herself from doing so.

She does, however, offer him a grin in greeting, and her words are offered in a tone of approval.]

So your outside finally reflects what you're like on the inside, huh? Good.

[Yeah, he's just kind of -- standing around awkwardly and trying to ignore the way everyone's staring. It is not as easy as it looks!]

Uh, I guess? Or maybe someone just really likes me?

[Bucky's the first at the tree when he hears about the van showing up, anxious over his bro. Please let Steve be okay, please let Steve be okay...]

[When Edmund sees Steve, he has to do a double-take. Not because Steve is suddenly buff, though that's definitely a part of it. It's just that at first he sees what he thinks is Peter. A second glance tells him that no, it's not. It's just...a very buff Steve. Wow. Edmund needs a moment to get his thoughts in order first, after giving his half-brother a very shocked look.]

Uh...is this a normal thing that happens after you get back from a quest?

[Yes, he's...trying to move on from the fact that he thought Steve was his older brother.]

[Not being Greek, Elphie just kind of trickles in late, because it feels weird to wait there with everyone and she always thinks crowds are going to stare at her. But she and Steve have talked a few times and that qualifies them as friends, right?]

[And then she spots him and stops in her tracks, blinking.] Whoa.

{Welcome back to Cabin Six, Annabeth and Steve, somehow Stiles missed meeting you guys officially before you set out. So have a long-limbed stranger having half taken over the cabin with stacks of Norse books and translations, as well as a web of copied information and colorful strings and hilightings taking up the entirely of multiple boards. He doesn't even notice his returning roommates he's so nose-deep in a book.}

Meet the new NPC

[So Captain America suddenly buff Steve isn't all that's been brought back to camp - though in the hullabaloo of the former the thirteen year old that had entered with the two blondes might go unnoticed.

Shea was following behind the two of them, looking around the camp with wide eyes. It hadn't been easy to convince his Da in the end, but they'd managed. Biting his lip he turns to look at Steve but he seems to be mobbed by girls and Annabeth is busy talking to friends.

He looks down, takes a deep breath, and then goes to try and figure out which cabin he's suppose to leave his stuff at. And then? Then he's finding a cool shield, just like Steve's.]

Okay people! Back up, give the boy some breathing room!

[Sojourner had heard about Steve's sudden growth spurt, and it sounded like something straight out of the comics.

She still didn't get why all the girls were gawking, because sure he was suddenly tall and muscular but he was still Steve. That nice kid who drew.

Which is why she's weaving her way through the girls, shoo-ing them along with Scoot's lacrosse stick. Said stick she had managed to ste- borrow with the help of Stiles. She's not actually hitting anyone was it, but there are a few gentle bops.]

Seriously! Y'all act like you've never seen a guy with muscles before!
